Constitution-Obama

General Douglas MacArthur:

“I am concerned for the security of our great Nation; not so much because of any threat from without, but because of the insidious forces working from within.”

Daniel Webster:

“God grants liberty only to those who love it, and are always ready to guard and defend it.”

George Washington:

“A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government.”

Thomas Jefferson:

“The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.”

Abraham Lincoln:

“You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred. You cannot build character and courage by taking away people’s initiative and independence. You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves.”

Another sobering and thought-provoking article from our friends at Laissez Faire Today.

Can Snowden Occupy a Vacant Cabin in a Snowstorm?

When it comes to the NSA leaks and Edward Snowden, government has circled the wagons. Whether Democrat or Republican, the folks doing the people’s business have one view and the people see it differently. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi was booed and interrupted by liberal attendees at the Netroots Nation conference on Saturday.

Netroots Nation is a convention for progressive political leaders. Pelosi, a darling of those on the left, was the keynote speaker at the event. But her pro-surveillance, anti-Snowden remarks incited the crowd.  “We’re listening to our progressive leaders who are supposed to be on our side of the team saying it’s OK for us to get targeted” for online surveillance, said Jana Thrift of Eugene, Ore. “It’s crazy. I don’t know who Nancy Pelosi really is.”

We know who Nancy Pelosi is. She’s an authoritarian. She isn’t for freedom, or the people, she represents authority. She’s all for the government spying on us and taking lots of our money to do so. Like most in Washington she believes she knows what’s best for us. Americans should be on a “need to know” basis to keep us safe in Pelosi’s world.

Those on the right are just as bad. (more…)

This article is a re-posting from Laissez Faire Today, a daily e-letter club site dedicated to social/political awareness in the broadest sense. The root of this site is one concerning financial matters, but they expound on a variety of other concerns as well with informative thought brought to their reading public through a continual series of timely articles, book reviews and discount book offerings. With an incredibly vast array of perspective LF defies categorization other than that which might be considered somewhat anarchistic … but in a respectable and responsible manner.

I offer here one of their latest posts, one that describes a woeful tale of totalitarian government surveillance and civil disobedience brought together with an historical perspective on the manner of the world in which we now live. Prepare to witness how our civil liberties in general and specifically our 4th Amendment rights have been under ongoing assault and rapid diminishment through manipulation and lies since no later than the latter half of the 20th Century. See how Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell may well go down in history as one of the greatest philosophical treatises on liberty in Socratic dialog the world has ever witnessed.

For your reading pleasure, I present:

Dear Laissez Faire Today Reader,

Baltimore, MD What happens when you spend a day at home searching the Internet for home appliances and maybe some back-to-school supplies? For most people, you get a lazy afternoon. But one couple in Long Island, N.Y., got a visit from their local police department. They had some questions about their peculiar Internet searches.

Better sit down before you read this. And move away any valuables you might throw at a wall in a fit of rage. (more…)

THE FOLLOWING IS MY SYNDICATED COLUMN THAT WAS PUBLISHED July 4, 2006. OBVIOUSLY NOT ALL OF THE PEOPLE NAMED THEN ARE LIVING AND/OR IN OFFICE TODAY BUT THE NAMES OF THE ELECTED POLITICIANS ARE INTERCHANGEABLE WHEN IT COMES TO THEIR NOT HAVING OUR BEST INTEREST IN MIND AND THEIR LEVEL OF CORRUPTION. AS I SAID, CHANGE THE NAMES I REFERENCED THEN WITH THOSE IN OFFICE TODAY AND THIS PIECE IS EVEN MORE PRESCIENT THAN WHEN FIRST PENNED SEVEN YEARS AGO.

John Kerry’s idea of freedom may be marrying uber-wealthy heiresses. Ted Kennedy’s idea of same has been to live off his gangster father’s bootlegging money. Howard Dean, D-Vt., Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., view freedom as bullying and intimidating any Democrat congressman who gets out of line (especially if he is black) and bashing the president at every opportunity. The right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed

In all the noise and clamor today over guns and gun control, let us pause for a moment and refresh our failing memories with exactly what the Second Amendment to the Unites States Constitution actually says and secures:

“A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” September 21, 1789, Second Amendment to the United States Constitution.

Read those words written by our forefathers and let them sink in. The right to own guns to protect your personal freedoms – keep and bear arms – was never, not even for a moment, written to protect your right to go deer and bear hunting.

It was written to guarantee all Americans for as long as the Union would survive, the right to own firearms to protect their liberties from their government and elected officials. To protect themselves from tyrants and dictators in the event they should arise. The use of guns for sports and recreation was not even a though in their heads at the time they wrote this.
