I spent a portion of my army years in Signal Intelligence/Electronic Warfare as a linguist and developed a theory about word usage.
Basically, as people speak I can tell whether they are heavy readers or lazy copycats in terms of their vocabulary.
Watch a small sample of several cable news channels and listen to their word usage.
You’ll notice repetitive misuse of terms such as:
None of these terms exist and “as” or “per” are to be used separately, never juxtaposed, due to redundancy, yet most newscasters use them over and over.
Why? Because they are lazy journalists, the very bunch of people who should never make these blunders. They copycat each other rather than read and practice originality.
In the past, Bill O’Reilly and currently Sean Hannity, Trace Gallagher and others on Fox news are some of the worst perpetrators.
The terms are actually:
If one reads regularly, they will spell and pronounce most terms properly. If not, they will blunder.
