We had lunch Sunday at a friend’s who is hosting a relative from Israel.
He graduates from high school next month and enters the army in September.
May God watch over him and keep him safe. We are all proud of his being pre-selected for intelligence operations.
He has surprising perspectives on a number of issues.
Israel is a polyglot of cultures, Jews,Muslims, Christians, Bahais, guest workers from the Philippines and Central America.
Even the Jews are not monolithic ranging from secular to ultra-religious and from various backgrounds including European, North African, East Asian and Mid-Eastern.
Our soon to be draftee is from Ashkenazi or European stock. If you didn’t know he was Jewish a fair assumption would be Nordic or some other Aryan group.
He is proud to be both secular and liberal, telling us how his whole family voted for the leftists in the last election and how he hasn’t been in a synagogue in years.
He also confirmed our suspicions that in Israel just like the USA, education has been hijacked by the left and their agenda.
He elicited corrections from my son by his claim that the 1948 war was not one of independence but of conquest and about the policy forced expulsion of Arabs at that time, and how the non-European Jews in Israel are persecuted by the right wing.
The fact is African and Asian Jews overwhelmingly are welcomed by and support the right wing and also tend to be more religious. It is the liberal, secular European Jews that display elitist, racist and self-righteous traits.
We were surprised by some of his answers being contrary to what we expected.
He said not to call them Palestinians. That only legitimizes their false claim of a national distinction, and should be referred to as Arabs; there is no such thing as a Two-State-Solution.
When we asked him what he thought about Obama, his answer was,
“He’s an Arab”
Maybe the self-righteous, elitist, liberal Jews in America can learn a lesson from their Israeli counterparts.
