Small Texas School District Lets Teachers, Staff Pack Pistols
When classes start Aug. 25 in the tiny Harrold school district, there will be one distinct difference from years prior: Some of the teachers may have guns.
To deter and protect against school shootings, trustees have altered district policy to allow employees to carry concealed weapons if they have a state permit and permission from the administration. The 110-student district lies 150 miles northwest of Fort Worth on the eastern end of Wilbarger County, near the Oklahoma border.
More than a dozen state legislatures have considered making it legal to carry guns on college campuses, but experts and officials contacted by the Star-Telegram say the move is unheard of in elementary or secondary schools. (more…)

Yogi’s Speech Ain’t Over Till it’s Over Your Head

May 19, 2007: St. Louis native Yogi Berra addresses the crowd on hand for the Saint Louis University graduation.
Deadlines being what they are for this Sunday column, this essayist missed a momentous occasion recently. Yogi Berra accepted an honorary degree from St. Louis University and delivered the commencement speech for 1,900 graduates and 10,000 in attendance at Scottrade Center.
It’s hard to imagine a more promising lingual event. Berra is to vocal communication what Don Cherry is to the fashion industry. Yogi doesn’t so much command the English language as he corkscrews it. It is part of what makes the baseball Hall of Famer and pride of the Hill one of America’s endearing figures.
While the oratory went unrecognized in this space last week, I was fortunate enough to secure – wink, wink – a copy of the discourse and felt compelled to share it with those who did not attend. So here is, in its entirety, Yogi’s dissertation:
“Thank you all for being here tonight. I know this is a busy time of year, and if you weren’t here, you could probably be somewhere else. I especially want to thank the administration at St. Louis University for making this day necessary. It is an honor to receive this honorary degree. (more…)

An unbelievable story from the University of California Irvine, where the Muslim Students Union is holding a virulently anti-Israel hate week, and at the same time trying to claim victimhood: FBI actions at UCI questioned.
The OC Register says the “FBI” is being questioned. But notice—the students not only tried to detain the agent, they threw a cinderblock at his car.
And, of course, the terrorist front group CAIR jumps in, right on queue, with their Muslim victim-hood bully program…

BOSTON, May 11, 2007— Showing profound disregard for free speech and freedom of the press, Tufts University has found a conservative student publication guilty of harassment and creating a hostile environment for publishing political satire. Despite explicitly promising to protect controversial and offensive expression in its policies, the Tufts Committee on Student Life decided yesterday to punish the student publication The Primary Source (TPS) for printing two articles that offended African-American and Muslim students on campus. The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE), which has spearheaded the defense of TPS, is now launching a public campaign to oppose Tufts’ outrageous actions. (more…)

A ‘Muslim-Friendly’ America?
Islamofascism: You would think 9/11 would have marginalized militant Muslims. But it’s only emboldened them. Now they’re demanding foot-baths in restrooms — and getting them!The latest appeasement comes courtesy of the Kansas City International Airport. PC-mad authorities there, supposedly on high alert for Islamic terrorists, have built a place of worship for Islamic taxi drivers.
The cabbies complained it was hard to wash their feet and other body parts before praying to Allah in the existing kaffir bathrooms. So the airport added four individual foot-washing benches, complete with knee-high faucets, drains and handrails, as first reported in WorldNetDaily.

What’s the difference between Cho Seung-Hui and the many hundreds if not thousands of Palestinian and Islamic terrorists worldwide? It’s a three-word answer: choice of weapon.
Everything else is the same.
All of them planned their mass murders meticulously by preparing carefully loaded weapons (either cars or, in Cho’s case, guns) intended to produce maximum casualties.
