November Election Called Blue-State ‘Suicide Pact’

From NewsMax

Voters in blue states who went solidly for President Obama’s re-election are ironically those who will suffer the most from the tax-the-rich policy promoted by Obama.

“With their enthusiastic backing of President Obama and the Democratic Party on Election Day, the bluest parts of America may have embraced a program utterly at odds with their economic self-interest,” observes Joel Kotkin, executive editor of NewGeography.com. (more…)

Ann CoulterI watched the Wisconsin returns on MSNBC Tuesday night, and it came right down to the wire between “the Democrats were outspent 7-to-1″ and “Republicans are stripping union rights!” As we go to press it’s still too close to call.

President Obama wanted to go to Wisconsin, but he just didn’t have time. He’s been doing so many campaign fundraisers lately he barely has time to play golf.

The left’s “outspent” argument is ridiculous. Unions take money by force from members, hire hundreds of political operatives and give them salaries to work on campaigns, then call them “volunteers” so their work isn’t reported as a campaign contribution.

Luckily for them, government employees’ non-punishing work schedules leave them plenty of time to be in a constant state of grievance, demanding recalls after any election they lose, and mobilizing voters.

This election had nothing to do with people being paid a fair wage for the work they do. The question is: Do you want a society where the people whose salaries you pay make more than those who pay them?

The Democrats will do anything the government unions ask, because (1) It’s not their money they’re spending, it’s the taxpayers’; and (2) Government unions reciprocate by making sure the Democrats keep getting re-elected.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo is about to turn New York into Pottersville from “It’s a Wonderful Life” by legalizing gambling so he can keep paying the unions.

All manufacturing has been driven out of the state by high taxes — and by well-compensated government employees who make it impossible to do business in New York. The state’s principal cash cow, New York City, is now entirely composed of a tiny slice of Wall Streeters and the people who serve them –- personal trainers, doormen, maids, doctors, lawyers, restaurateurs and Keith Olbermann’s cat groomer.

Outside of New York City, everyone works for the government. But there’s no actual industry in the state. People are fleeing New York faster than Democrat legislators fled Wisconsin before a vote they were going to lose.

Soon it will be just another mid-range, dying state. If the financial sector ever leaves, New York City will be Detroit, which itself was once the nation’s crown jewel metropolis.

So Cuomo’s going to bring in casinos to save public sector salaries, perks and pensions. Democrats don’t care that gambling destroys neighborhoods and ruins lives. They will do anything to keep government employees happy. They’ll legalize drugs or sell body parts to keep paying off public sector workers.

There’s a reason both FDR and labor leader George Meany said it would be insane to ever allow government employees to unionize. People who work for the government don’t have a hard-driving capitalist boss on the other side of the bargaining table demanding more work for less pay.

No one is worried about the profit margin because there is no profit — it’s government! Rather, the only people on the other side of the table are the unions’ co-conspirators: Democratic politicians willing to spend the public treasury on union members, who will repay the politicians by mobilizing voters.

This is why Walker’s victory Tuesday night was an amazing, miraculous, transformative event in the history of the nation.

Even the Terminator couldn’t beat the government unions. In the dumbest move ever made by a politician, in 2005, two years into Arnold Schwarzenegger’s first term, he called an off-year special election to enact a few minuscule reductions in public-sector union perks, such as making it humanly possible to fire bad teachers.

Even in a normal election year, initiatives curbing government employees’ boondoggles are nearly impossible to get past the powerful unions.

But worse — as in Wisconsin — this was an off-year election. Unlike Wisconsin, however, it was Schwarzenegger’s idea to hold a special election on the advice of his political consultant, Mike Murphy, the Bob Shrum of the Republicans.

Let’s see, who would be likely to vote in an off-year election? We’re going to cut your exorbitant benefits, require you to work, and make it easier to fire you, public employees. Do you have any interest in voting on that?

Anyone with half a brain could see disaster coming from a mile away. Even with the language barrier, Arnold should have seen it coming.

Within weeks, Tony Quinn, a California Republican consultant, stated categorically: “The governor needs to cancel this special election, regardless of the political cost, because he’s headed for a huge political defeat.”

But Schwarzenegger’s adviser, Murphy, was brimming with confidence, dazzled by the governor’s celebrity status. He gloated, “He’s still Arnold Schwarzenegger.” (Murphy never saw “Twins.”)

Public sector unions spent a jaw-dropping $80 million to defeat Schwarzenegger’s initiatives, portraying the governor as the enemy of cops, teachers, firefighters and “people like us.”

Mike Murphy: “I am confident we will win.”

In the end, union members turned out in droves on Election Day, defeating every single initiative. Everyone else in California woke up the next day and said, “Hey, did you know there was an election yesterday?”

The failure of Schwarzenegger’s propositions ended his governorship. From that day on, he became the Democrats’ plaything.

The 2010 census marks the first time California has lost population since it became a state.

The decision to call an off-year special election to roll back public employees’ perks will long be remembered as the all-time stupidest idea in political history. One hundred years from now it will still be studied at the Kennedy School of Government.

Wisconsin made history in a different way Tuesday night. As Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch said, the recall election will go down in the record books as the night “the campaign to save America” began.

The last time I prayed for Tim Tebow, it was for him to vanquish the low-life New England Patriots. Now I pray that he successfully navigates the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune that are headed his way.

Tim Tebow

Jet fans I know in New York are telling me that this is the breaking point; that they can’t see themselves supporting a team with Tebow on it.

Poor Tim.

It’s bad enough to be placed in a dysfunctional rivalry with the starting quarterback. He’s also dropped into a clubhouse that doesn’t see him as part of their culture and neither do many fans.

New Yorkers are so taken with their liberal smugness that the choirboy doesn’t fit with their self image of sophisticated decadence. How could such an obvious icon of middle America, flyover, bible belt, silent majority walk in the footsteps where Broadway Joe Namath staggered?

Me? I can’t stop laughing at the notion of Sodom and Gomorrah having to reconcile with what the roster has rendered.

And Tim? It’s okay with me if you succumb to temptation and decide not to save yourself until after marriage. As long as you don’t go Roethlisberger on her. You work hard, have some fun.

But if you need strength in the moral fiber department, and wonder what Jesus would do to stay on the straight and narrow in the Big Apple, I can tell you right now. He’d be in Midtown, outside the Mitzvah Tank with the Lubavitchers, urging all the other Jews to wrap tefillin.

After a donnybrook between Park police and Muslim patrons at a suburban New York amusement park over safety regulations and head scarves, one Muslim woman takes an insanely rational perspective on it. I would have let them keep the scarves on and risk strangulation.

Lessons from Rye Playland

By QANTA A. AHMED

Tangling with the Muslim headscarf is no child’s play, as this week’s unpleasantness at Rye Playland proved all too well. There are lessons here both for Muslims and non-Muslims.

Muslims in America are free to express their religious identity, and today often choose to do so by adopting the hijab (a headscarf that covers only the hair and exposes the face) as a badge of devotion. Ignorance in many camps has helped this become intensely polarizing.

Though headscarves have come to symbolize Muslim identity in the post-9/11 world, the Koran does not in fact specify a particular garment for veiling. Yet, in an era of rising Islamic neo-orthodoxy, such inconvenient scriptural anomalies are often overlooked by Muslims ourselves.

On the other hand, many mistake headscarves for a symbol of female oppression; in fact, they are a tool of liberation for many Muslim women — allowing them to move freely in the public space.

While many Muslim women are compelled to wear the hijab in Muslim-majority nations (by legislation in Saudi Arabia; by community pressure in parts of Northwestern Pakistan and Afghanistan), Muslim women in America are empowered to do as they choose.

The unfortunate episode at Rye Playland highlights the intensely knotted feelings these newly iconic swathes of fabric elicit. Park operators, concerned about insecure scarves becoming entangled in ride equipment, restricted access to veiled women. Their concern, they explained, extended to all headgear — baseball caps and kippas are equally prohibited.

I must tell you, both the hijab and the niqab (a face veil) can be quite limiting. Wearing a veil (as the law required) in Riyadh, Jeddah and Mecca, I found it certainly can impair peripheral vision. I was at risk whenever crossing a road — and, like other less experienced veil-wearers, I found that floor-length veils often left me tripping on escalators and stairs. (more…)

Channeling my inner Larry King or Andy Rooney I will share some thoughts and observations.

Maybe I’ve been in the boondocks too long but a trip to New York City convinced me the place is a freak show of fashion victims and Glamour Magazine Don’ts.

Gay people should be allowed to marry. Gay men should marry gay women. There, I’ve said it.

When people complain about stomach issues, most of the time they really mean shitting issues, either not enough or too much.

And speaking of shit…

Islam is undoubtedly a religion of peace. However, Muslims define peace as a state attainable only when every one in the whole world is a fucking Muslim.

Imam Replaced at Ground Zero Center

by CARL CAMPANILE

The Muslim leader behind the beleaguered Islamic cultural center and mosque near Ground Zero is being sidelined as part of a major leadership shakeup, organizers of the controversial project announced yesterday.

Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf will no longer be the chief religious figure in the project — though he will still play a lesser, behind-the-scenes, role in support of the planned 13-story, $100 million facility, officials said.

Rauf’s replacement, Imam Abdallah Adhami, who has been active in New York’s Muslim community, will now handle religious programming for the project, known as Park51.

Park51 organizers downplayed Rauf’s diminished role — emphasizing the imam has just launched a nationwide tour on interfaith relations. He will address the Islamic Society in North America’s diversity conference today in Detroit.

They also note he remains on Park51′s board of directors.

There’s been speculation since the summer that relations had soured between Rauf and Sharif El-Gamal, the president and chief developer of Park51.

“It is an honor for me, personally, to welcome Imam Adhami to our team. I look forward to his leadership and assistance in the development of Park51,” El-Gamal said.

Born in Washington, Adhami has a degree in architecture from Brooklyn’s Pratt Institute.

Critics of the project pointed out that Adhami has a link to Imam Siraj Wahhaj, of Brooklyn, whom prosecutors fingered as an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. Wahhaj also was a character witness in the trial of convicted terror plotter Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman. (more…)

Statement on the Proposed “Cordoba House” Mosque near Ground Zero

Newt Gingrich | July 21, 2010

Newt Gingrich

Image via Wikipedia

There should be no mosque near Ground Zero in New York so long as there are no churches or synagogues in Saudi Arabia. The time for double standards that allow Islamists to behave aggressively toward us while they demand our weakness and submission is over.

The proposed “Cordoba House” overlooking the World Trade Center site – where a group of jihadists killed over 3000 Americans and destroyed one of our most famous landmarks – is a test of the timidity, passivity and historic ignorance of American elites. For example, most of them don’t understand that “Cordoba House” is a deliberately insulting term. It refers to Cordoba, Spain — the capital of Muslim conquerors who symbolized their victory over the Christian Spaniards by transforming a church there into the world’s third-largest mosque complex. LONG before he joined al Qaeda, Mohammed Junaid Babar was a sometime student at Jamaica High School, where I work.

About 18 months ago, a reporter called the school, looking to do a story on Babar. But it turned out (happily, for school pride) that Babar never graduated from Jamaica HS. Indeed, according to the teachers I talked to, he hardly attended any of his classes – just another of the faceless, tragic thousands who pass through our schools learning nothing.

Intrigued, I looked into his life in New York. (more…)

Lessons from the Case

THE testimony of “turned” al Qaeda member Mohammed Junaid Babar was critical in Monday’s terror convictions in London. But New Yorkers might want to focus on how Babar used the city as his headquarters while supporting terror on three continents.

After all, in the London trial, he admitted to also plotting to blow up Times Square. (more…)
