Reading:
BOOMSDAY by Christopher Buckley
A laugh out loud political satire revolving around the intergenerational strife between baby boomers and those under thirty.
Ironic, seeing as how the boomers invented the concept of generation gap 40 years ago.
Music:
For any baby boomers out there I recommend giving a listen to the White Stripes, and Amy Winehouse.
Jack White has a perfect voice for Rock and Roll along the order of Robert Plant, Geddy Lee and Steven Tyler.
Winehouse, a British chanteuse exudes an alluring sultriness. I’m also a sucker for those tattoos and that trampy look.
You can enjoy these artists and show the kids that you’re not completely out of touch at the same time.
Maybe the kids will see that much of popular music of today is a rehash of what came before.

ADL Survey In Six European Countries Finds Anti-Semitic Attitudes Up: Most Believe Jews More Loyal to Israel Than Home Country
Jerusalem, Israel, July 17, 2007 …In a companion survey to one fielded several months ago in five European countries, a new survey of an additional six countries shows similarly that millions of Europeans believe the classical anti-Semitic canards that have persistently pursued Jews through the centuries.
The findings released by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today revealed that half of the Europeans surveyed believe Jews are not loyal to their country and more than one third believe that they have too much power in business and finance. (more…)

Few scholars have lived as enmeshed in their subjects as has Walter Laqueur, an estimable voice on the history of the twentieth century. Born in Germany, he left for Mandatory Palestine in 1938. As a journalist, he covered the Middle East and the creation of the State of Israel. He left to study in England, where he eventually became director of the Institute of Contemporary History and the Wiener Library, the premier research center on anti-Semitism, and was a founding editor of the Journal of Contemporary History. Laqueur also taught at Brandeis and Georgetown universities, and was chairman of the International Research Council at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Now in his ninth decade, he continues to produce books and essays on a regular basis. His present volume, The Changing Face of Anti-Semitism, forces us to confront the problem at hand starkly. From Britain’s UK Channel 4, in six parts, Richard Littlejohn investigates the rise of anti-semitism in modern Britain, arguing that it is no longer exclusive to the extreme right. Traveling across Britain, Littlejohn meets victims of prejudice, visits a desecrated graveyard and joins a police patrol in an area of Manchester where Jews struggle to attend the local synagogue for fear of attack.

Larry King Video: What’s Paris Hilton’s favorite Bible passage?

Um…like WHAT-everrrr…
Immediately after stating she read the Bible in the slammer, Larry asked Paris what her favorite Bible passage was…
Is Paris Catholic? I like the way Larry asked her about attending Mass. I think a lot of Jews don’t realize the word “Mass” is a Catholic term, used mostly by them and derivatives and spin-offs from the Catholic Church, like the Lutherans. Protestants don’t go to “Mass.” They go to church services or Bible study, or if Holy Rollers, they gather at the river. And if they don’t go to any of these, they go straight to H-E-double-L.
Now that Paris has found Haysuss, how do we most accurately describe her? Is she a Bible thumper? An Evangelical? A Christian Fundamentalist? A Jesus freak? And when she smokes crack, do we say she’s smokin’ the Rock of Ages? And what about her Bong Hits 4 Jesus?
I do know there’s a 1-thru-10 rating system to denote how holy a Christian is, with 10 being holier than Jimmy Carter on Easter Sunday at Arafat’s house, and 1 being somewhere between Billy Carter and Rosie O’Donnell. For example, anyone with at least four teeth and a Bible qualifies as a 10.
Now I’m feeling the spirit, channeling it, just like John Edwards*. Hallelujah! Come on folks, sing along now: Shall we gather at the ri-ver, the beautiful, the beautiful ri-ver…
Praise Jesus! Amen brotha. Gawd did it! He will heeeeal yew. Evil demons come OUT!

* He’s the trial lawyer who pretended in court to channel the spirit of a handicapped fetus in front of illiterate jurors to scam tens of millions of dollars off of innocent doctors. According to The New York Times, Edwards told one jury: “She speaks to you through me … And I have to tell you right now — I didn’t plan to talk about this — right now I feel her. I feel her presence. She’s inside me, and she’s talking to you.”

Is Darwin Kosher?
Last month, 600 people turned out for a Yeshiva University fund-raiser at the American Museum of Natural History in New York. The museum, which stands as a monument to science, houses one of the world’s most extensive collections of dinosaur fossils. The dinner itself was held in the dramatic Milstein Hall of Ocean Life, which features a massive blue whale that hangs suspended in midair; intricate dioramas modeled on the flora and fauna of the planet’s oceans line the walls. Everything about the affair suggested that Yeshiva, the intellectual epicenter of Modern Orthodox Jewish life in America, is very much at ease in the world of secular science.
This impression is confirmed by Carl Feit, who is an ordained rabbi and Talmudic scholar as well as chairman of the science division at Yeshiva College. Prof. Feit says that in nearly a quarter-century of teaching introductory biology, he has always taught evolution–supported by traditional Jewish source material–and that “there has never been a blip on the radar here.” His assessment echoes the official line of the Modern Orthodox rabbinical association, which states that evolution is entirely consistent with Judaism. }} more…
Another Flaming Catholic Jew-Hater: Time to scrutinize ‘Cordaid’

In 2001 the Dutch Roman Catholic NGO Cordaid was indirectly involved in financing the largest anti-Israeli and anti-Jewish hate campaign of the twenty-first century, the UN World Conference against Racism in Durban, South Africa. This supposedly humanitarian, but heavily politicized pressure group is subsidized by its country’s government and recently again undertook an anti-Israeli campaign.
On 8 June, before the visit of Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxime Verhagen to the Middle East, 52 prominent Dutch citizens, mainly well-known pro-Palestinians, issued, through paid advertisements in the Dutch press, an astutely slanted pro-Palestinian public statement calling on the Dutch government to break the stalemate in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The call for a boycott against Israeli academicians by the British University and College Union (UCU) reflects the depths to which vicious hostility against Israel has become ingrained in British society.
It is an abomination for “educators,” purporting to be liberal or progressive, to sanction a dastardly resolution boycotting academics from the only democratic state in the Middle East. It is especially bizarre because Israeli universities are pluralistic with no limitations on the enrolment of Israeli Arab students. In stark contrast, many Palestinian Arab “universities” promote a cult of death, suicide bombers and the destruction of the Jewish state.
It may be politically incorrect to describe such boycotts as anti-Semitic rather than anti-Israel. But the time has now surely come to call a spade a spade. (more…)
