The White House says it is still hopeful Tehran will suspend its controversial nuclear activities, otherwise more international sanctions would follow. Obama still thinks talking with Ahmadinejad will help.
Meanwhile, Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad vowed today that Iran will not yield over its drive to acquire nuclear weapons even though the White House warned again that Iran risks more sanctions if it fails to freeze its nuclear program.
Ahmadinejad told a rally in the southwestern province of Kohgelouyeh-Boyerahmad, “The Iranian people are steadfast and will not step back an inch against the oppressive powers.” It’s nice of him to tell the Iranian people what they are steadfast about and won’t budge and inch on.
Ahmadinejad typically leaves no wiggle room in the future. This is his way. His way or no way. Even if that means Iranian cities are bombed back into the Stone Age, which isn’t too far back for Iran.
Ahmadinejad’s defiant comments come after world powers warned Iran has two weeks to respond to the most recent offer seeking to end a five-year crisis that has raised fears of regional conflict and sent oil prices spiralling.
Words won’t budge Ahmadinejad. He’s taken the Saddam role and cranked it up a couple of levels. In other words, he’s an inflexible blowhard and an incorrigible braggart who cares nothing about his people and loves the fame, power and attention he gets by being the region’s new bad boy.
He figures we can’t afford to take him on and Israel wouldn’t dare. He figures wrong.
