When British author Hilaire Belloc ran for Parliament in 1906, his speech on religion and politics, given to a packed public meeting, went as follows: “Gentlemen, I am a Catholic. As far as possible, I go to Mass every day. This is a rosary. As far as possible, I kneel down and tell these beads every day. If you reject me on account of my religion, I shall thank God that he has spared me the indignity of being your representative.”

* Within Islamic tradition, the concept of Taqiyya refers to a controversial dispensation allowing believers to conceal their faith when under threat, persecution or compulsion. It is based on Qur’an verses 3:28 and 16:106 as well as hadith, tafsir literature, and juridical commentaries.
The word “al-Taqiyya” literally means: “Concealing or disguising one’s beliefs, convictions, ideas, feelings, opinions, and/or strategies at a time of imminent danger, whether now or later in time, to save oneself from physical and/or mental injury.” A one-word translation would be “Dissimulation.”

On the website of the church Obama attends, the Trinity United Church of Christ, the following statement appears: We are African people, and remain “true to our native land,” the mother continent, the cradle of civilization. I assume that Obama is part of the “we.” If that’s true, his loyalty lies with Africa, not the United States. Personally, I have serious doubts about his loyalty to the Bible.

We don’t pray for queers. We love heteros and homos equally, although homos (the old-fashioned kind who doesn’t procreate) are probably the best kind. My point being, humans reproduce too much and any movement that embodies or engenders reducing the global human population is okay in my book.
