April 29, 2007 by Lance
Somebody tell Rosie O’Donnell that right after the initial explosion, fire melted the steel understructure and the bridge collapsed. But as she said, Never in history has fire ever melted steel, so I guess this didn’t really happen, right Rosie?

BREAKING NEWS: Tanker Explosion Causes Freeway Collapse
The upper deck of Interstate Highway 580 at Interstate Highway 80, located near Emeryville collapsed Sunday morning after an explosion and fire, according to NBC11.
What was initially reported to the California Highway Patrol as a fire at around 3:42 a.m. quickly escalated.

Paul Kochli said he was driving from San Francisco to Napa at around 4 a.m. when he noticed a huge plume of smoke and a mushroom cloud. Kochli said he recorded 59 seconds of the fire. He said the overpass had already collapsed by 4:05 a.m.
The driver of the tanker is the only person reported to be hurt. He suffered second degree burns. A fire official told NBC11 that the driver walked to a nearby gas station and took a cab to a local hospital. The fire official said early indications show the driver was driv[ing] too fast.

Here are headlines about recent explosions/fires:
- Oklahoma refinery fire/explosion yesterday – lightning caused.
- Illinois (Springfield area) natural gas explosion this morning (unknown cause).
- California (Bay Bridge approach from Oakland side) freeway collapse (tanker truck fire/explosion) cause.
One more and it’s “four of a kind” and coincidence turns into a trend.

Where's Pat Paulsen when you finally need him?

Somebody ought to tell Rosie what a little heat can do. The Donald Trump kind is nothing compared to what all that iron feels inside the Earth’s core.
