I’m positively amazed at all the serious American conservative voices who are throwing right-wing flamethrower Ann Coulter under the bus for her schoolyard joke about political correctness and the word “faggot.”
The snorts of disapproval and huffs and puffs are pouring in. “I was not amused.” “She hurts the conservative movement.” “We should never name-call.” “She was a distraction from the serious straw poll that featured strong showings by Romney and Guiliani.” And on and on…
Why are so many conservatives afraid to fight back? }} more…
Here’s Somebody Who Won’t Abandon Ann Coulter
March 7, 2007 by Lance

Excerpted from my post “The Cancer in Conservatism”:
I’ve said it for years now and will say it again, the Religious Right has given (and will continue to give) Conservatism a bad name and will (as it already has begun to) destroy the Republican Party unless they cut that cancer out of their ranks. Religion belongs in church and in the community, not in the halls of Congress and social intolerance does not belong anywhere in a decent society.
See: The Cancer in Conservatism for the full post.
Just because you said it doesn’t make it true, a valid point, or a good idea. In fact, in this case you’re wrong as hell. This country rocked along fine for over 200 years until liberal-lefties decided to take over. Now it’s all fucked up.
And what does your point have to do with the above article? Nothing is the answer.
What my point has to do with the article is that Ann Coulter, the subject of your post, is the media star of the Religious Right and reflects their attitudes. I apologize for not making my point clearer — it was late!
Yes, this country rocked along fine for 200 years, actually for 202 years but then in 1979, Richard Viguerie, Paul Weyrich and Howard Phillips created an organization known as the Moral Majority. Headed by the Reverend Jerry Falwell, the group actively opposed abortion, equal rights for homosexuals, sex education in the schools, pornography, and the Equal Rights Amendment. All well and good for a Christian organization, but this Christian organization stepped over a line by not just speaking out against these things, as a religious entity is expected to do, but by attempting (and succeeding) to influence legislation on these issues like a political entity. Voila! A religion, normally a benign social force, has now, in many peoples eyes, transformed itself into a political force — something to be feared; it has traded its Christian doctrine for a political agenda.
Ann Coulter, as well as Mike Galligher and numerous other Religious Right media stars reflect that political agenda every day.
You probably think that’s wonderful but think on this, the “liberal-lefties” didn’t just “decide” to take over; the majority of the population got so sick of the way the Republicans were fucking up our country they kicked the “liberal-lefties” into the majority by kicking the ultra-conservative religious-righties out!
You may have misinterpreted my ‘attitude’ and assumed I’m one of those “liberal-lefties” — well I’m not! I evaluate issues as I see them right, as my blog title suggests, from the Center and from that vantage point I see danger on both extremes of the political spectrum.
There’s only one reason I’m in the conservative camp. They fight back when attacked. Liberals surrender immediately. If this country has any hope of beating the Islamofascists in this war, it will be because of people willing to kill the enemy. The liberals would sink the ship just to avoid a fight. I don’t like the Repubs any more than I do the Dems. I’m just smart enough to know which side is the better bet for handling our current situation — a situation which demands most or all of our attention. Anybody voting for the left is casting a vote for us to be defeated and our country being turned over to a pack of primitive cult thugs under sharia law and a defeat not unlike the defeat they handed us in the 70s against Vietnam. We don’t have time to cure the ills of either camp, so we must stick with those that would fight for our survival instead of those who are psychologically dysfunctional and hell bent on insuring we won’t survive. This country full of fools needs to wake the fuck up.
Conservatives are very combative, that’s true. But remember what Ronald Reagan did when Hezbollah blew up hundreds of our troops? Cut and run. When it comes to infighting, conservatives are ruthless. Look at Cheney. He’d kill his mother if he got something out of it. Second thought, he probably killed her years ago.
As for Liberals, remember several years ago when Hollywood clamped down on portraying Arabs as the dirty scoundrels they really are? That said it all. Sensitive is good, but sensitive and stupid is bad. Liberals are sensitive and stupid. And what’s worse is they think they’re smart and they think conservatives are stupid. Lots of conservatives are stupid. Stupid as shit. Remember the Scopes Monkey Trials? They think stem cells have feelings, but lobsters don’t mind being boiled alive. Go figure. But what I love about conservatives is they don’t mind lying, cheating and even acting stupid if it helps them beat the Arabs at their own game. If that’s what it takes, and if the Liberals won’t do it, then who needs the Liberals? Besides, the way the Liberals are going, they’re looking more and more like goody-two-shoes Brown Shirts.
